Alaturca - Thesis Project

This collection focuses on how Turkish culture influences, and how Ottoman culture has influenced, the current Turkish societal structure with specific emphasis on the role and perceptions of women. It explores the topic by breaking it down to these sections: identity and society, interpellations and their reflections, culture, uncommon knowledge about the Ottoman Empire and harem, Turkish society and women in the 1960’s and 1980’s reflected by the Turkish cinema Yeşilçam and how the perception of women changed over time.

Concept & theme development, fashion design of the collection and all related works, creative direction and set design for the photoshoots, making of the garments and embroideries.
